FRANCE has plunged into street carnage with outraged protesters setting up blazing roadblocks as President Emmanuel Macron's government hangs by a thread.

At least 200 arrests have been made nationwide amid the "Block Everything" campaign - which is aiming to disrupt transport links and bring the country to a grinding halt.

Brazen campaigners attempted to wreak havoc on roads and rail hubs including the Eurostar at Gare du Nord.

At least 75 people have been arrested in the capital as of Wednesday morning, France's interior minister said.

Around 100,000 campaigners are believed to be taking part in the protests - while some 80,000 police and gendarmes have been deployed.
