LANSING, MI – Following an apparent surge of violence in one of the state’s prisons earlier in the summer, Michigan lawmakers want to know what happened and why they were not told about it.

“It appears to me like there’s probably more that’s happening than we’re getting notice of,” Rep. Bradley Slagh, R- Zeeland and chairman of the state house appropriations subcommittee on corrections and judiciary, said at a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Committee members questioned Kyle Kaminski, offender success administrator and legislative liaison for the Michigan Department of Corrections, about why they were not notified after news broke of numerous reports of assaults on prison staff and inmates at the St. Louis Correctional Facility.
