A fiery crash that left one person dead and another injured has forced a shutdown on the 5 Freeway through the Griffith Park area of Los Angeles Wednesday morning.

The two-car collision was reported around 3:20 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near the transition to the 134 Freeway.

A person was left trapped inside one of the cars, which was engulfed in fire, the Los Angeles Fire Department stated in a news alert.

"Sadly, the patient was beyond medical help and determined deceased on scene," a spokesperson for the Fire Department said.

A patient from the vehicle not involved in the fire was being evaluated, according to the Fire Department.

The crash prompted officials to close all northbound lanes at the 134 Freeway.
