MESA, Arizona — A driver is dead after a crash in Mesa, the city's police department said.

According to Mesa PD, officers reportedly tried to pull over the driver of a vehicle near Country Club Drive and Main. The driver was suspected of impairment.

During the incident, the driver fled. Authorities said officers pursued the vehicle because of the dangerous driving and risk to other drivers.

After a short period, the driver crashed into the wall at Sirrine and Broadway Road. Police said the driver then died from his injuries.

No one else was involved in the crash and the identity of the driver was not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
