Former Brevard County School Board member Jennifer Jenkins (D) launched her campaign for Senate in Florida on Wednesday, challenging incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) in the red state. Jenkins made headlines in 2020 when she ousted conservative school board member Tina Descovich, an ally of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who went on to co-found the parental choice group Moms for Liberty. Jenkins won the school board race by roughly 10 points in the right-leaning district. She has also founded a political committee called Educated We Stand that is opposed to conservative policies promoted by groups like Moms for Liberty.
