Are Minnesota’s animal feedlot rules or the Ground Water Protection Rule adequate in protecting air, water land and other natural resources in the state?

That was a question that came up from a January 2025 lawsuit against the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, and there is now a deadline for providing an answer.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Minnesota Department of Agriculture must review their rules to see if they protect Minnesotans’ drinking water from nitrate pollution, according to a judge's order on Friday, Sept. 5. They have one year to show proof. The Ramsey County District Court judge's order reflects an agreement reached between state agencies and the environmental groups who sued them earlier this year.
