CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — Commissioners in Coryell County have postponed approving a proposed 21% tax rate increase Tuesday, Sept. 9, after facing a packed courtroom of residents voicing opposition to the budget proposal.

The proposed tax rate of $0.53 per $100 valuation would have represented a 21.17% increase from the current rate, according to the meeting agenda filed with the county clerk Sept. 3.

The impact to residents taxes can be seen below in a example provided by the county:

Proposed Rates:

2025 Median Homestead Taxable Value : $224,318

Current fiscal year taxes ($.44824) : $1,005.49

2025 No New Revenue Rate Taxes ($.43739) : $981.14

2025 Proposed Rate Taxes ($.5300) - $1,188.89
