A Melbourne father is sending his four children to boarding school in East Africa , saying the city’s escalating knife crime has made it too dangerous for them to stay.

Mulual Deng made the heartbreaking decision after two young boys, Chol Achiek and Dau Akueng, were murdered by a youth gang armed with knives and machetes in recent twin tragedies that have rocked the South Sudanese community.

Hundreds gathered arm in arm at a school basketball stadium in Cobblebank for a candlelit vigil, praying for the innocent victims.

“God our heavenly father, thank you for the life of Chol and Dau, innocent souls that were taken,” mourners said during the emotional service.
