(WKBN) -- A 35-year-old woman from Virginia who shot and killed a man while on a hike in Cuyahoga Valley National Park in March 2021 was sentenced Tuesday.
Chelsea Perkins was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison. She pleaded guilty in May to a second-degree murder charge with the use of a firearm. She will also serve five years of probation when she gets out of prison.
According to investigators, Perkins drove her husband's car from Virginia to Ohio to meet with Matthew Dunmire. After she picked him up, they spent the night in a vacation rental home. The next morning, they went to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Valley View, Ohio and went on a hike.
They walked off the trail into a wooded area where Perkins shot Dunmire in the back of the head, according to investigators. Sh
