Two City Council incumbents were ousted on Tuesday in a primary election that saw just 8% of Charlotte’s voters go to the polls.
Other incumbents won handily, including Mayor Vi Lyles, who got nearly 71% of the vote in a race against four Democratic challengers.
In addition, all four council members currently holding at-large seats easily won spots on the November ballot.
In a city where Democrats hold a huge electoral advantage, the party is all but certain to retain its majority in city government after the general elections.
