PHOENIX — A pedestrian is dead following a crash in Phoenix, the city's police department said.

Around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were sent to a scene near Cave Creek and Greenway roads. As they arrived on scene, officers found an adult pedestrian suffering from critical injuries.

Phoenix Fire crews assisted the victim and pronounced the pedestrian dead on scene. The identity of the pedestrian was not released.

An initial investigation by detectives suggests the pedestrian was crossing Cave Creek Road when the crash happened. The driver involved in the crash stayed on scene and did not show any signs of intoxication, police said.

The investigation into what led up to the crash is ongoing.
