Jacey Darrow's summer job turned into a permanent position at SoZo Coffee Roasting in Ionia, thanks to the Ascend Youth Summer Work Experience Program through West Michigan Works .
Darrow was among 92 people aged 16-24 who participated in the program across seven counties, including Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Montcalm, Muskegon and Ottawa, according to a community announcement.
The program aims to provide job training, soft skills development and career exploration while participants earn a paycheck.
Initially, Darrow connected with West Michigan Works to explore a career as a veterinary technician. Her placement at SoZo Coffee Roasting helped her grow communication, social interaction and customer service skills that will support her long-term career goals.
