CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – Mayor Kahlil Seren will not get to finish his term as the city’s first-ever elected mayor, as voters on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly for a ballot measure to recall him from office, according to unofficial election results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Seren, 46, was elected to office in 2021 as a progressive and visionary young candidate after six years on city council. However, his term came to be defined by contentious political battles and a series of scandals involving his wife, Natalie McDaniel.

Despite having no formal role in City Hall, McDaniel’s conduct was the subject of multiple human resources investigations and employee resignations, a civil rights lawsuit filed by a former staffer and a criminal indictment charging her with trespassi
