The latest death of an innocent bystander , from ill-considered high-speed chases by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Downtown Safety Patrol, needs to be the last such death.

County Council needs to take a strong and assertive stance against what appears to be faulty sheriff’s oversight of the patrol; poorly fashioned and implemented chase policies; and hiring failures that resulted in the county hiring a deputy sheriff who should never have been hired after he revealed himself to be untruthful in the hiring process itself . That same deputy was involved in both fatal high-speed chases.

Why has there not been more of an outcry from County Council? These failures have cost innocent lives. Tough questions need to be asked and County Executive Chris Ronayne taken to task for not more stren
