The climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is here. September and October have historically been very active months for tropical activity, but so far this September has been relatively quiet.
Tropical Depression Chantal ripped through central North Carolina back in early July, leaving a trail of devastation in many counties. Since then, there hasn't been any other tropical system to impact our state.
The National Hurricane Center is highlighting a few areas where tropical activity could ramp up through the rest of September. Areas to watch include the Central Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf.
But, the Atlantic Basin remains quiet with no tropical development expected over the next week.
