GENESEE COUNTY, MI – A Genesee County man who was found guilty of killing a woman in front of his 3-year-old son will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Trenard Powell, 33, was sentenced by Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Khary L. Hanible last month.

Powell received a prison term of 25 to 50 years, according to court documents.

A jury found the man guilty of second-degree murder, three felony firearm charges, first-degree child abuse, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of controlled substances.

Powell was originally charged with first-degree murder after being suspected of shooting and killing 36-year-old Amber Faith Wicker on Jan. 22, 2024, on Winona Street in Flint.
