The latest Statistics Canada’s Crime Severity Index shows that St. Thomas has experienced a 17.57 per cent drop in overall crime severity in recent years, despite a sharp increase in violent crime.

The overall Crime Severity Index figure, which measures the volume and severity of police-reported crimes, combines StatsCan’s calculation of a 31.7 6 per cent reduction in St. Thomas’ non-violent crime severity data from 2022 to 2024 with a 22.3 per cent increase in violent crime severity data for the city over the same two-year period.
