A vessel that has been tracked by the state for years has sank in Sinclair Inlet near Gorst, leaking oil into the water since it began to list over the weekend.

The Cairdreas, a 1943-built, 108-foot former Navy sub-chaser, has already spilled over 25 gallons of oil, according to Department of Ecology spokesperson Jasmin Adams on Tuesday, Sept. 9, adding that the agency is still responding and calculating the entire amount. The boat was floating as of Saturday afternoon, but was seen sinking on Sunday, Sept. 7.
