THE New York Jets have swung the axe following their horror show performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.

An impressive fourth quarter comeback from the Steelers saw the Jets suffer a 24-22 loss in their opening game of the 2025 NFL season.

It has cost Xavier Gipson, 24, his job.

The Jets have cut Gipson after a costly fumble triggered a change of momentum in the final quarter.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers equaled one of Tom Brady's many NFL records .

Rodgers has tied Brady with 28 games where he has thrown four touchdowns without an interception.

His final two touchdown passes came within just 50 seconds of each other following Gipson's error.

Head coach Aaron Glenn had indicated that players who make costly mistakes this season could pay the price.
