Haverford’s e-bike and e-scooter helmet ordinance passed its second vote at Monday’s commissioners meeting.
The ordinance mandates children under 16 must wear helmets while riding electric scooters and electric bicycles.
The ordinance amends a 1959 law regulating bicycles, skateboards and roller skates but does not impact adults.
Beginning in January there would be a $25 fine for children not wearing helmets.
Commissioners, who unanimously approved the measure, were responding to recent incidents across Delaware County that left one child from Ridley dead and a child in Springfield seriously injured.
Commissioners have also urged residents to contact state representatives to move on improving state law.
