Two Baltimore County councilmembers announced an amendment to redistricting measures in the county.
Councilmen Izzy Patoka, D-District 2, and Mike Ertel, D-District 6, said they’re trying to preserve majority Black districts, while taking feedback from residents.
There were concerns from residents after the final map was submitted by a redistricting commission earlier this year that, while it expanded the council to nine seats after a 2024 ballot question, it divided majority Black areas like Woodlawn.
The new map submitted by Ertel and Patoka would preserve the Woodlawn and Randallstown areas as “Majority-minority districts.” It would also introduce a third district on the west side of the county.
