CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Cheshire Planning and Zoning Department is warning residents of scam emails impersonating them.

Cheshire department officials said the impersonators are requiring additional application fees via email for an application to be approved.

Officials with the department said they never ask for payments through wire transfer, fees for any application are discussed in person, and all emails will come from verified sources like "cheshire.gov" and "OpenGov.com."

Anyone who receives suspicious emails is asked not to click on the links.

If you're contacted, officials advise residents not to respond, take a screenshot or copy the message and report it.
