HANCOCK -- The Ellsworth Elks Club is giving back to the Hancock community by donating funds for children in need.

“Backpack program is a really important program because it is actually working with children who may not have enough to eat when they go home," says Lori Palmer, leading knight of Ellsworth Elks Lodge 2743.

At Hancock County Grammar School a special program is set up to help students and families with meals and food service.

It’s called their “backpack drive” and has been around close to nine years.

“It’s evolved over the years. Since 2016, the school nurse at the time, Michele Dupuis, put it all together and we’ve been cranking ever since," says backpack drive volunteer, Rose Schultz.
