SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KTVX) – The National Transportation Safety Bureau has released a preliminary report concerning a Delta flight that experienced severe turbulence in a thunderstorm over Wyoming on July 30, leaving dozens of people injured.

Delta Air Lines Flight 56 was en route to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (EHAM) from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) when it hit severe turbulence around 5:23 p.m. on July 30, 2025. The flight was diverted to Minneapolis Saint-Paul International Airport (MSP), where injured passengers were evaluated.

Initial reports indicated that 25 people were hospitalized, but the preliminary report now says 24 people were medically evaluated by paramedics, and 18 were taken to hospitals. Officials noted that two people sustained serious injuries and five
