KONXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Unless congress passes a joint resolution, a rule allowing President Donald Trump to place Washington D.C. under direct federal control could expire Wednesday. Last month, the president used Washington D.C.'s Home Rule Act to place the nation's capital under direct federal control, declaring a "crime emergency," according to the U.S. Department of War. After that, he deployed National Guard troops to the capital in what was called a "Safe and Beautiful Task Force."
