HIGHLAND — Two people died and four were injured in a car crash after a head-on collision Tuesday night.

A 14-year-old girl from East Chicago and a 69-year-old woman from Highland died from their injuries in Chicago area hospitals after the 9:30 p.m. crash near the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and Hart Road, according to a news release from the Highland Police Department.

Police who responded saw a Dodge and a Jeep with major damage and found debris from the vehicles scattered across Kennedy Avenue. Investigators from the South County Crash Reconstruction Team believe the 69-year-old woman driving the Jeep southbound on Kennedy Avenue crossed the center line and struck the Dodge, which carried five occupants, the release said.
