The Work Release Program at the Coweta County Prison is expected to be completely phased out by fall 2026.
The decision comes after a July Board of Commissioners work session where the future of the program was discussed.
Coweta County Prison Warden Jeff Rogers attended the meeting and proposed, alongside Public Works Administrator Tod Handley, dissolving the program due to “lack of utilization and an increase of liability issues,” according to a county press release.
The space would then be repurposed to expand operations of the Coweta County Prison and increase its capacity from 216 to 248. The additional space would house inmates who have shown good behavior, a strong work ethic and zero disciplinary actions. Renovations are expected to be completed by fall 2026.
The board unanimous
