GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — The Police Department is planning an education campaign to teach children about e-bike safety after the recent death of a teenage rider in another local town.
As part of that campaign, Capt. Mark D'Esposito told the Township Council this week, the department will create a safety video and spread awareness through social media.
Jack Sullivan, 14, of Egg Harbor Township, was riding an e-bike when he was fatally struck by a car July 17 at Maryland Avenue and the bike path in Somers Point.
The issue is becoming prevalent across the state and around the country, Mayor Anthony Coppola Jr. said.
"The problem is these e-bikes are really fast, and they are dangerous, and these kids are riding them," Coppola said.
