Drivers face a heavy price jump as gas jumped nearly 20 cents across Greater Victoria Tuesday (Sept. 9).

Fuel prices had been sitting around the 169.9 cents/litre mark at stations across the lower Island before the leap to 188.9.

The online tracker GasBuddy.com shows the nationwide average is down 3.3 cents at 145.3 cents/litre from last year’s 148.6.

Those averages include B.C.'s lowest prices at the pump on Wednesday – 137.9 in Cranbrook and just a cent higher in Kamloops, though that’s at Costco, known for lower prices.

Locally, the big-box store in Langford is coming through at 167.9, according to the app's user-submitted data. Some stations are sitting at 181.9 in other parts of the region including downtown Victoria, Langford and the Saanich Peninsula.
