With World Cup ticket sales beginning Wednesday, mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani called on FIFA to ditch its dynamic pricing model that could lead to sky-high prices for the international soccer tournament.

“They can raise prices, in real time, depending on how much profit they think they can make off of us,” Mamdani said in a petition . “Those tickets can then be resold on an official FIFA platform with NO price cap — yet another method of gatekeeping the game.”

Dynamic pricing allows organizations to reset ticket prices based on demand, and it has been used by North American teams and musicians for years. However, FIFA has not used the model at a World Cup until this year.
