FARGO — The idea is not new, but Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman verbalized it and localized it in a way that should make North Dakota State football fans take notice.

In a recent appearance on the radio program of South Dakota's Nate Brown, Burman lamented the roadblocks facing NDSU and other top-flight Football Championship Subdivision schools in joining the Mountain West Conference (of which Wyoming is a member) while offering his thoughts on how the Bison might some day be able to move up a level.

Until now, NDSU's hopes of moving to the higher-level Football Bowl Subdivision and joining a so-called Group of Five league like the Mountain West have not been met despite unprecedented conference realignment movement in the past several years.
