Charlie Kirk has been shot at a speaking event at Utah Valley University.

The conservative political activist was about 20 minutes into a presentation witnesses heard gunfire from a nearby building, a spokesperson for the school told NBC News .

Kirk, a co-founder of the conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA, was the only person shot in the incident, the spokesperson said.

“This is an on going situation,” the organization’s public relations manager Aubrey Laitsch said in a statement. “We can confirm that Charlie Kirk has been shot. He is in the hospital, and we are praying for him at this time.”
