U.S. Steel and its new owner Nippon Steel have dropped their lawsuit against Cleveland-Cliffs and United Steelworkers International President David McCall.

After the Biden administration blocked their merger in January, Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel sued McCall, Cleveland-Cliffs and Cleveland-Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves, alleging a conspiracy to prevent the deal from being approved. The Trump administration subsequently allowed the $14.9 billion acquisition after Nippon Steel pledged $14 billion in investment and a golden share that would give the U.S. government a final say over matters like jobs and production levels.

Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel said they have ended all litigation and disputes now that the sale closed on June 18.
