(Gray News) - Charlie Kirk, a well-known right-wing political activist, was reportedly shot in the neck at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

The university confirmed the shooting in a post on X , writing:

“Today at about 12:10 a shot was fired at the visiting speaker, Charlie Kirk. He was hit and taken from the location by his security.”

University officials initially said a suspect was in custody, but they have since walked back that statement.

According to the New York Times , police determined the man they took into custody was not the shooter.
