AMHERST, NY — Fire crews battled a 2nd-alarm blaze that broke out Wednesday afternoon in the Town of Amherst.

The fast-moving garage fire heavily damaged a home at 217 Sprucewood Terrace and threatened a neighboring house.

Local officials received multiple 911 calls at approximately 1:05 p.m. reporting a fire in an attached garage. Main Transit Fire Department personnel arrived within minutes and reported "a house fully involved" with an exposure to the next door neighbor’s home.

A second alarm was announced at 1:10 p.m., bringing in multiple agencies to help contain the fire. Crews had the bulk of the flames knocked down within 15 minutes, and the blaze was declared under control at 1:35 p.m.
