Artist V.L. Cox ’s “End Hate” installation is headed to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., 10 years after the exhibit debuted on the steps of the Arkansas Capitol.
Cox , who was raised in Arkadelphia and graduated from Henderson State University, built the doors in response to Arkansas House Bill 1228 of 2015. The original version of that bill would have legalized discrimination against LGBTQ+ people as long as such discrimination was tied to religious beliefs. (Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed a modified version of the bill mirroring the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 after prominent businesses leaders from companies like Walmart expressed concerns.)
