BROOKSVILLE, Ky. —

A man was shot and killed by a Bracken County, Kentucky, deputy after law enforcement responded to his home for a welfare check on Tuesday night.

Investigators said deputies with the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office were called for a welfare check on Justin Gillespie, 34.

KSP said the deputy was talking with Gillespie when he ran inside and tried to exit through the back door of the house. That’s where an altercation occurred and the deputy shot at Gillespie, KSP said.

Gillespie was shot and died at the scene.

The Bracken County Sheriff’s Office has requested KSP to investigate the shooting. No further information has been released on what led up
