BANGOR -- Bangor's Mayor Cara Pelletier has unexpectedly resigned, effective immediately.
As of Tuesday evening, Bangor City Council Chair Cara Pelletier has stepped down from her position.
In a resignation letter sent to city officials, Pelletier cited "personal attacks" from members of the public as her primary reason.
"I have refrained from discussing these matters publicly in hopes of keeping the focus on the council’s work, but the impact on my well-being and the strain on my family have been significant," Pelletier wrote in her letter. "Public service is an honor, yet I do not believe it should come at the cost of one's health."
