TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - 60 years ago, a Southern California band broke on through with a sound that forever shaped American music.

In 1965, ‘The Doors’ started their path towards becoming one of the best-selling bands of all time led in part by their late singer Jim Morrison.

Morrison would die, however, at age 27 in 1971.

As the United States celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, WCTV and its parent company, Gray Media, are taking a moment to celebrate our local history. Our “We The People” series commemorates and honors local history in the Big Bend and South Georgia.

In 2010, then Florida Gov. Charlie Crist granted Morrison a posthumous pardon for an indecent exposure conviction linked to a 1969 concert in Miami.
