OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Officials at the Oconee Nuclear Station report declaring an unusual event after a small leak occurred in the cooling system for the unit 1 reactor on Wednesday.
The leak was stopped with the water contained inside the plant, and the unusual event was terminated at 1:53 p.m., officials said.
Sensitive monitoring equipment indicated very small quantities of radiation were released, but they do not pose a threat to public health or safety, according to officials.
