SENECE, S.C. (WSPA) - Duke Energy said a leak was discovered in a cooling system at the Oconee Nuclear Station.

The leak happened in the cooling system of the Unit 1 reactor during maintenance around noon on Wednesday. Officials said the leak was stopped and the water was contained inside the plant.

Officials categorized the leak as an "Unusual Event," the lowest of four nuclear emergency classifications. No threat has been issued to the public.

The "Unusual Event" was cleared just before 2:00 p.m., officials said.

Oconee Nuclear Station is a three-unit power station, located on Lake Keowee. Each of its units has a rated capacity of 851 megawatts, Duke Energy said.
