TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — The trial for the man accused of opening fire on Florida State University's campus is being pushed back. Instead of November, the trial will now begin in the spring.

Set to begin in a few short months, the trial date for the suspected gunman, 21-year-old Phoenix Ikner, has been pushed back to March 2026 due to an unknown conflict of interest with his original counsel. "Be prepared to go to trial on March the 30th. That's plenty of time," said Judge Lance Neff, Second Judicial Circuit.

After Phoenix Ikner's original defense team withdrew from representation, new capital defense attorneys Blake Johnson and Sarah Morris have now taken over.

The defense is still trying to buy more time, saying that with the number of witnesses, hours' worth of videos, and evidence
