HARRISBURG, Pa. — Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at an event in Utah on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson.

Kirk, a popular conservative political activist and media personality, was at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah as part of his "American Comeback Tour." This was his first stop since resuming the tour.

After the news broke, local Pennsylvania lawmakers took to social media to react.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who has been the target of violence himself , issued the following statement:

"Political violence has no place in our country. We must speak with moral clarity. The attack on Charlie Kirk is horrifying and this growing type of unconscionable violence cannot be allowed in our society
