LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Michigan school districts still do not have a state budget as Democrats and Republicans remain at odds over spending for the next 12 months.

Superintendents from mid-Michigan and across the state gathered Wednesday to warn that without a budget, districts could be forced to shut down. Even if schools stay open, they said the damage is already done.

Ingham Intermediate School District Superintendent Jason Mellema criticized lawmakers as the clock ticks on a budget for the school year.

"It's unacceptable to expect us to be held accountable or to have plans when you aren't doing your job." he said.
