NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for having a ‘machine gun conversion device,’ Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced.
Joel Bustamante Moreno, 26, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession or transfer of a machinegun and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.
Moreno was accused of selling a pistol and an AR-style rifle that had been converted into fully automatic weapons, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release. Moreno was also accused of selling two 100-round drug magazines and one 30-round magazine for the AR-style rifle; three pistol magazines; and live ammunition.
Moreno was arrested in February 2024 after leading police on a high-speed chase and then attempting to hide in a sofa.
