Charlie Kirk, the prominent MAGA campaigner and right-wing commentator, has died after being shot in the neck while speaking at a university campus event in Utah, US President Donald Trump has confirmed.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday evening (local time).

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.

“He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us,” Mr Trump added.

“Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

The White House lowered its flags to half-mast within an hour after Mr Trump confirmed Kirk’s death.
