RUSK, Texas — A suspect at the center of a manhunt in August has been taken into custody by East Texas deputies.

Rusk Police Chief Scott Heagney said Donald Everitt Casper was arrested and is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. He was on the run after a man was shot in Rusk during what police say was a drug deal gone wrong in August.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office captured Casper around 1:09 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 17000 block of Hwy. 110 N, north of New Summerfield following a tip sent to law enforcement.

Heagney said officers executed a search warrant at 376 Main Street in Rusk in connection with a shooting in August, but that Casper evaded capture.

The victim, identified as T.J. Adams, was taken to a Jacksonville hospital with a gunshot wound. Rusk Police
