HURON COUNTY, MI — The 180th Fighter Wing out of Swanton, Ohio, is expected to conduct an air defense exercise over Northeastern Michigan Wednesday night.

The exercise is scheduled to take place between 7 and 10 p.m. on Sept. 10.

Those living in and around the Bad Axe area in Huron County may hear and/or see fighter jets in close proximity to a Civil Air Patrol aircraft.

The Civil Air Patrol aircraft will be taking on the role of a Track of Interest, a news release from the 180th states. A Track of Interest is what is known as an aircraft that has been identified as a potential threat.

The purpose of Wednesday night’s exercise is to evaluate response and coordination procedures for the airmen and airwomen flying the fighter jets.
