LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Several Michigan organizations hosted a news conference on Wednesday on the steps of the Capitol in Lansing, rejecting the budget passed by the State House on Aug. 26.

It’s no secret the budget has been a hot topic as Michiganders have been waiting for more than two months since the original July 1st deadline. Many are focused on important areas like education and healthcare, but advocates at Wednesday’s event say the impact could go much deeper.

“Forget life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We're talking about food, shelter, heat. We’re talking about water,” said State Representative Emily Dievendorf (D-Lansing).

Benton Harbor student Olivia says she wants a budget that prioritizes things like mental health.
