Crews were working to repair a gas line along A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach Wednesday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office said a shelter in place was issued for residents within a quarter mile of 500 A1A North due to the gas line break.

As of 5 p.m., due to the size of the leak, A1A Southbound was expected to be closed for about another 2 hours, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
